Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a Tokyo Subway Ticket?

A: It is a ticket that allows you to ride all subway lines in Tokyo that are operated by Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway for your chosen valid period.

Q : Is it cheaper to buy the 24, 48, 78-hour ticket compared to a regular ticket?

A: It depends on how much you use the subway during the validity period.  Subway ride costs about $1.5 to $2 per ride, so if you use it at least 4 to 5 times in 24 hours or 8 to 9 times in 72 hours, it would be worth buying it.

Q : Is it better than Suica or PASMO?

A : While both Tokyo Subway Ticket and Suica or PASMO give you convenience of ticket less rides, Suica and PASMO do not offer discounted fares. If you ride the subway many times and want to have some discounts, Tokyo Subway Ticket would provide you a great value with convenience.

Q: How do I know exactly what time my ticket expires?

A: The time you start using is stamped on the back of the ticket.

Q: My ticket will expire soon, can I still use it?

A: As long as you insert your ticket into the automatic ticket gate before the expiration time, you can ride to your destination station. If you need to transfer between Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway, be sure to go through "Orange colored ticket gates” within 60min for the transfer, so you can continue your ride even after the valid period. Some stations within Tokyo Metro lines also require to exit from a gate and enter from another gate for transfer from a line to another, be sure to use the orange ticket gates for the transfer.

Q: Can I take a ride on the subway or Metro line that runs beyond the covered area where it is owned by private train companies?

A: Some lines are connected with lines owned by private train companies, and conduct mutual extension operations. When you get off the train, show your pass to station staff and pay for the portion not covered by the subway ticket.
