The Kodankan was found in 1882 by the late Prof. Kano who himself and established Judo. Judo was derived from Jujitsu which had many names and schools. Prof. Kano adopted the superlative parts, and established the new Kodankan Judo based on his own insights and arrangements. It started with only one disciple and a twelve-mat dojo.
Now Kodankan is ipen to those who practice Judo from all over the world, and functions as the Mecca of international Judo. At the Kodankan, there are two ways to practice Judo, one is to practice freely during the dojo open hours which is called General Guidance, and the other is to participate in the class at the Kodankan School of Judo. Classes are held everyday from Monday to Saturday and students may freely join Randori in the main Dojo.

剣道 KENDO
In 1895, 100th year anniversary of Japanese capital to Kyoto (Heian-kyo), and as part of the building of Heian -Jingu, the Butokuden constriction began. It was originally meant as a demonstration platform for the Butokai. It was completed in 1899 on the north -west side of the Heian Jungu complex. It was then designated as a school for training Martial Arts teachers. At the time it was said " in the east there is Kodankan(build in 1882), and in the west the Butokuden" such was its place in the center of Japanese budo circles. The Butokuden has passed down to your generation today and still serves as a place to demonstrate and practice budo.
